Our priorities
The ASA actively engages with governments and industry stakeholders to ensure patients have access to safe and high-quality medical diagnostic ultrasound.
The key focus of our advocacy and policy efforts are regulation of the profession in Australia to protect patients, workforce sustainability across Australia and New Zealand to ensure patient access to diagnostic medical ultrasound services as well as raising awareness that sonographers are the experts in ultrasound. To achieve these goals we:
- Meet with government representatives, and health and regulatory agencies
- Undertake and support research to assist in accurately representing the needs of the sonography profession
- Produce submissions to government in response to consultations, current events and the budget cycle
- Collaborate in representations or statements with industry groups and other stakeholders
- Define and enhance sonographers' scope of practice
- Provide media comment, press releases and position statements on issues that concern sonographers
- Identify opportunities where sonographers can be effective self-advocates
