About the ASA
The Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA) is the peak body and leading voice for sonographers in Australasia and leads the profession in delivering excellence in sonography to the community. It is the only professional association in Australasia that exclusively represents sonographers who are the experts in ultrasound.
With the continued growth of ultrasound Australians received close to eleven million diagnostic ultrasound exams, most of which would have been provided by sonographers. Sonographers provide the majority of medical diagnostic ultrasound services in Australia and New Zealand with the quality of ultrasound examinations, and subsequently the findings of the examination, being predominately reliant on access to a qualified sonographer.
With almost 7,000 members, and representing 80 percent of accredited sonographers across Australia and New Zealand the ASA is the respected advocate to governments on issues that face the sonography profession.
Advocating for patient access to safe and quality medical diagnostic ultrasound, providing sonographer professional development and supporting research, as well as promoting that sonographers are known as the experts in ultrasound across the community are key roles for the association.
The ASA strives to advance health and advance education within the sonography field and this extends to supporting less developed nations. We are proud to be a major partner with Radiology Across Borders’ (RAB, which trains local health professionals so they can provide much needed diagnostic imaging services which helps save lives.
