Kate enjoys working as a senior lecturer in the master’s ultrasound program at Central Queensland University and as a specialist sonographer in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide.
Her ultrasound career started in Brisbane in 1998, where she spent five years before moving to the United Kingdom. While in London, Kate developed her passion in fetal medicine before returning to Adelaide in 2008. She has a special interest in fetal echocardiography and research, completing her PhD titled ‘Maternal cardiac function in women high-risk for pre-eclampsia’ in 2020.
Kate continues to be involved with research and regularly gives presentations locally and nationally. She is a passionate advocate for the advancement of sonographers and strives for continuous improvement in the quality of sonographer practice and person-centred care.

Patrick Nielsen qualified as a sonographer at Queensland University of Technology in 1995 and currently works at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney and teaches in ultrasound at Australian Institute of Healthcare Education, specialising in general, vascular, and musculoskeletal ultrasound. He has presented at several National Conferences and written journal articles for Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA) and Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) and taught at travelling ultrasound workshops throughout Australia. He started Mobile Ultrasound Services in 2014, providing sonography services to hospitals, aged care facilities and homes in Sydney.
Internationally, Patrick has expanded an interest in ultrasound training for developing countries since 2005, presenting training courses in Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, and China. More recently, Patrick has been part of the Radiology Across Borders Vital Projects in Samoa, Fiji, Vietnam, and Solomon Islands. He enjoys the collaboration and continual learning challenges offered every day in ultrasound.
