I’m excited to invite you to celebrate Australasian Sonographers Day on 27 October - a special day dedicated to honouring the remarkable contributions of over 8,000 sonographers across Australia and New Zealand.

Sonographers really are the backbone of diagnostic imaging, performing more than 11 million ultrasounds annually in Australia alone— that’s over 30,000 scans every single day! Their expertise ensures that patients receive accurate diagnoses, playing a vital role in our healthcare system alongside doctors, nurses, and other health professionals.

From capturing that first ultrasound image of a baby to unveiling hidden health issues, sonographers are often present at pivotal or vulnerable moments in people’s lives.

Despite challenges such as workforce shortages and increasing demand, sonographers continue to focus on their patients with empathy and dedication. Their resilience and enduring commitment to quality care are crucial as we navigate the complexities of modern healthcare.

I encourage all sonographers to take part in the celebrations today. Host a morning tea with your colleagues, share your experiences on social media, with family and friends or invite local media to cover your events! Let’s showcase the pride we have in this incredible profession and the vital work you all do.
