have found these 2 articles that may assist the enquirer in regards to differentiating punctate calciifcations versus colloid ring down artifact. Modern equipment does minimise artifacts in some settings, but my advice would be for us to direct this sonographer to their specific manufacturer in order to modify their specific equipment settings.
