Study finds the natural variability of myocardial segmental peak strain is greater than the change due to myocarditis

A recent study published in the Sonography journal examines the diagnostic utility of myocardial segmental peak strain (pkS) in detecting and characterizing myocarditis.

The natural variability in segmental peak strain is significantly larger than its change due to myocarditis, making it is difficult to obtain information about the severity and distribution of myocarditis from segmental peak strain for an individual.

Other segmental echocardiographic parameters should be investigated for the assessment of myocardial performance.
