Overview of Townsville travelling workshop
First session: Pelvic veins duplex
Ultrasound imaging of the veins within the pelvic region can be technically challenging. This workshop will give an overview of the pelvic anatomy and variations of normal anatomy, common source of pelvic vein incompetence, as well as associated compression conditions including; May-Thurner and Nutcracker phenomena’s. Surgical management options and how to image post-operative embolization and venous stents patients will also be covered.
Second session: Lower limb arterial bypass grafts assessment and their complications.
The Duplex surveillance programs for infra-inguinal bypass grafts are still widely used to monitor the graft patency and can be a useful predictor for failure. This workshop is designed to cover the sonographic information required for the on-going surgical management of bypass grafts.
The areas focused on will be, overview of medical terminology, understanding types of grafts used, assessment of graft patency and inflow / outflow vessels, common areas of in-stenosis and other complications, optimising ultrasound imaging and why assessing surgically excluded segments is important.
Third session: Upper extremity arterial duplex (including thoracic outlet assessment)
Requests for upper extremity arterial ultrasound continues to increase, but as this region does not have the same prevalence of disease compared to the lower extremity, familiarity with the variety of disease processes in this region can sometimes need a refresher. This workshop will give a better understanding of the common sites of pathologies seen within the upper extremity arterial system. Specific emphasis will be made to the ultrasound assessment for thoracic outlet conditions, including both the arterial and venous component.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
The scanning elements of the workshop sessions will be concentrating on a systematic approach to investigating patient symptoms, clinical manifestation, and effective duplex evaluation of the patient’s respective vascular system.
Finally, we will be translating what has been scanned on to a clear diagram with relevant information and how to construct a cohesive report.
