Cardiac Seminar (Online)

The Cardiac Seminar is back on the ASA events calendar to close out 2021, after success in recent years in Adelaide and Sydney and earlier this year in Melbourne (in-person!).

For our upcoming event, we will be running it in a LIVE online format (via Zoom)

We will showcase four expert speakers throughout the day, tailored to sonographers in the cardiac field.

The Online Cardiac Seminar is brought to you by the ASA, in partnership with Philips.

Bianca Coelho

Bianca is the Chief Cardiac Physiologist at MQHealth Cardiology, Macquarie University. She has graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology and a Graduate Diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound from the Australian Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. Bianca has trained at the Royal Hobart Hospital where she worked with cardiac devices as well as cardiac ultrasound. In addition to the role at MQHealth Cardiology she is a casual clinical academic at Central Queensland University and is the Chair of the Professionals Standards Committee at PICSA (Professionals in Cardiac Sciences Australia). Education and training have been her major areas of interest, she spends her time organising education sessions for trainee cardiac physiologists and organising education events for NSW through PICSA. She has also been a guest writer, reviewing content discussed at cardiac conferences and well as producing content for the PICSA newsletter.

Prof Sharon Kay ACCP PhD MSc

Kate Sturwohld

Kate Sturwohld is a cardiac sonographer at Westmead Hospital and a casual Academic Lecturer at CQUniversity. She has over 20 years experience in echocardiography and completed the DMU(cardiac) in 2001 at The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane.  Since then, has worked in a range of clinical settings including major tertiary referral centres, regional hospitals and private practice in regional Queensland, Brisbane and Sydney. Until recently Kate was an integral part of the teaching faculty in the Bachelor of Cardiac Physiology and Echocardiography, PG Diploma Echocardiography at CQUniversity. Kate is passionate about education and quality in echocardiography.

Dr Liza Thomas

Professor Liza Thomas is a Conjoint Professor at Sydney University and University of New South Wales and is Clinical Lead for non invasive cardiac imaging at Westmead Hospital. Her research focuses on echocardiography; specific interests include imaging for the assessment of atrial dynamics and function, diastolic function, chemotherapy induced cardiomyopathy, amyloid and Fabry cardiomyopathies and cardiac involvement in chronic kidney disease. She is the cardiovascular coordinator for the NSW Fabry and Amyloidosis groups.
